James Franco showed off the comedy skills he hopes will win over Oscars viewers during a skit on America's The Daily Show on Tuesday night (25Jan11).
The actor pretended to be trapped by a mini-refrigerator in the show's green room in a send-up of his hit film 127 Hours, in which he played a trapped adventurer who has to cut his arm off to free himself from a boulder in a remote Utah canyon.
Screaming with mock pain, the movie star, who will co-host the Academy Awards next month (Feb11), explained, "I was trying to get a fun-size Snickers bar out of the mini-fridge and it came down on me. I can't get my arm out.
"I can't move... I'm all alone in here, man; I'm gonna die. Nobody knows I'm here... No one's gonna find me here. This is the end."
The Daily Show host Jon Stewart continued with his show, but returned to Franco's mock dilemma as the actor was considering cutting his arm off with a machete.
Stewart offered, "Have you tried, James Franco, lifting the fridge off of your arm; it is a mini-fridge?"
The actor did just that and managed to free himself, smiling, "That was easy."
