Actor James Nesbitt was given a scare in 2007 when his young daughter fell through a glass table and suffered "horrendous" injuries to her ankle.
Peggy Nesbitt was dancing on a counter during a family trip to the Greek island of Corfu, but the day ended in disaster when the table smashed.
The youngster, who was born in 1998, was rushed to hospital for an emergency operation, and Nesbitt is full of praise for the medical experts who treated her.
He tells British newspaper The Sun's TV Magazine, "There was a terrible time about five years ago when our eldest daughter Peggy was 10. She was dancing on a glass table and fell through it - ripping the whole bottom of her ankle.
"We were on a family holiday in Corfu at the time, so we carted her off to hospital where she went through this painstaking operation that lasted for hours as they tried to piece her ankle back together. She was lucky because the glass had just missed an artery, but it was horrendous.
"You really don't want to go through something like that. It was the first time I got to see the kind of miracle doctors perform. You really do hand your child over to them and then they shoulder that responsibility."
