Jane Fonda rang in her 70s with an 85-foot (25.9-metre) deep sea dive off the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The movie veteran admits the dive made up for the fact she once failed to conquer Argentinean volcano Mount Lanin on a climb with her ex-husband Ted Turner.
And she credits her 70th birthday feat to the fact she has learned to take everything in life slowly.
She tells More magazine, "I almost got to the top (of the volcano), but I went too fast and perspired and got hypothermia."
Advice from her boyfriend, retired businessman Lynden Gillis, made the Turks and Caicos dive a very different experience: "I went very slowly. It's a major life lesson. It's true with mountain climbing, scuba diving and lovemaking - taking it slowly."
