Actress Jane Fonda has explained the root of her long-running status as a political rebel - one of her ancestors was banished from Italy for revolting against authorities.
The BARBARELLA star, who earned both praise and harsh criticism for her stance against the controversial Vietnam War, admits that speaking out has been a part of her family genes for more than 500 years.
She says, "Fonda is an Italian name. My (forefather) was MARCASE DeFONDA. He came from a Valley outside of Genoa.
"Fonda means the bottom of the valley and he was thrown out of Italy for political insurrection. I kid you not, in the 1500s. It's in the genes."19/04/2005 03:08
