Janet Jackson celebrated 30 years in pop music with a concert at Abu Dahbi's $36 billion development Yas Island on Thursday (13th October 2011). The 45-year-old is midway through her world tour, set to conclude in Miami in December.
The concert, 8,000 miles away from the Los Angeles trial of Dr Conrad Murray, was a resounding success. According to Uae's 'The National', Janet performed a dynamic show including, "all the chart toppers, reflecting her eclectic muse from R&B, pop to rock and dance". Peter Thomas, a pilot who attended the concert said Abu Dabhi should look to attract more pop superstars, saying, "This city should be the concert capital of the world. You have the weather and the people and if you put open air concerts in such a setting, you will get more to people to come". Jackson, who arrived on stage around 9.30pm wearing a white jacket with jeans, performed hits including, "In Control, "What Have You Done for Me Lately" and 'Feedback". Columbian pop princess Shakira was criticised for allegedly lip synching at her recent Abu Dhabi concert, but Jackson's live singing and intricate choreography received warm applause.
The concert was the first in Yas Island's series of 'Weekend' shows. On 25th October, the venue hosts rockers METALLICA.
