Jared Leto is set to star as The Joker in 'Suicide Squad'.

The musician and actor is reportedly in talks with Warner Brothers about playing the iconic Batman character in their new film 'Suicide Squad'.

According to TheWrap, the 42-year-old 30 Seconds to Mars frontman has yet to decide on his first acting role as a follow-up to his Academy Award winning performance in 'Dallas Buyers Club' and is seriously considering playing the supervillain.

A source also revealed that Ryan Gosling was asked to play The Joker, but declined as he was unwilling to sign up to multiple sequels.

Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie and Will Smith are also rumoured to be in discussions with the film's director David Ayer.

'The Social Network' actor Jesse Eisenberg is thought to be reprising his role as Lex Luthor, after being cast as Superman's arch-enemy in the 2016 film 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', which stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill.

Jared has been asked to play the role of a superhero in the past, having previously been linked to the Marvel Comics role of Doctor Strange.
