Jared Leto went on a journey through a ''magical land'' while writing 'Love Lust Faith + Dreams'.
The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman embarked on a spiritual quest around India for inspiration and it was during his trip that he wrote and recorded several tracks from their fourth album in a mobile studio, which helped make the record a ''new beginning'' for the band.
He said: ''I think the first three albums are kind of a trilogy in a sense and this is a new beginning. It was an unforgettably journey through this magical land.
''It was about absorbing the culture. I met wonderful people and went off the beaten track.''
Part of this fresh start for the band - also made up of Jared's brother Shannon and Tomo Miličević - included leaving behind the emotions captured on their last album, 'This Is War', and instead being more ''reflective'' through their music.
Jared added to The Sun newspaper: ''This time we weren't in a war so it was different - it's a more reflective album. There are songs that walk into the darkest corners I've ever gone into as a writer, but then songs that are full of life and celebration.
''I like the extremes and the different temperatures on the album.''
The 40-year-old musician also praises Shannon for his musical offering to the LP after he extended his hand to other musical instruments.
Speaking about the creative process behind the album, Jared explained: ''Once I get the song further along I'll share it and get responses or ideas and see if people are excited about it.
''My brother made some really wonderful contributions to this album, much more even than the previous albums.
''Usually he handles the drums but he played quite a bit of the other instruments as well on this one.''
