Jason Statham is to star in a 'Layer Cake' sequel.

The 'Homefront' actor will take on the role made famous by Daniel Craig in the 2004 movie in follow-up, 'Viva La Madness'.

The films are based on novels written by J.J. Connolly, who will adapt his book into a screenplay, much like he did with 'Layer Cake'.

In the latest book, Connolly's nameless anti-hero - who survived a gunshot wound at the end of the last book and movie - is seen trying to retire to a beach life, but soon finds himself in the mix of drug cartels, money laundering and electronic fraud.

It looks like Statham will produce the motion picture as well, as he and his manager and producing partner Steve Chasman have acquired the rights to the novel.

The duo recently produced 'Heat' through their SJ Pictures company, which sees Statham star alongside Sofia Vergara and Stanley Tucci.

The British action star recently finished filming 'The Expendables 3' and is currently shooting 'Fast & Furious 7', in which he will play the main antagonist.

His character in the high octane racing franchise was first introduced at the end of 'Fast & Furious 6' earlier this year.
