A travelling exhibition dedicated to Jean Paul Gaultier will launch in London next year.

The esteemed fashion designer - who has created unique outfits for the likes of Madonna and Kylie Minogue - will showcase some of his most iconic designs, including the 'Material Girl' singer's conical corset, in a new exhibition 'The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk' which will debut at the Barbican centre in London in April 2014.

He said: ''The English were the first ones to come to my shows and appreciate my fashion. I am super excited that the show is coming to London. If there is one place other than Paris that I should like to live in, it is London.''

As well as the famed corset worn during Madonna's 1990 'Blonde Ambition' tour, three other stage costumes designed exclusively for the 'Hung Up' singer will be on display, along with pieces worn by Kylie and Dita Von Teese.

The exhibition will feature 140 pieces designed by Jean Paul throughout his illustrious career, including both ready-to-wear outfits and high couture designs.

As well as the fashion being on display, the exhibition - which is described as a ''dynamic installation'' - will air clips from fashion shows, music videos and films the designer has had fashionable contributions towards.

Jean Paul added: ''I didn't want the show to be something like a funeral, because for me, to be in a museum, it is for people who are dead. I am still alive!''
