Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy has cited "unfair treatment" by network bosses as the reason for her no-show at the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday (29Mar14).

The Sam & Cat actress was noticeably absent as her co-star Ariana Grande helped honour the show's creator, Dan Schneider, with the Lifetime Achievement prize at the Los Angeles ceremony, and many fans were left wondering why one of the network's most popular stars wasn't on hand at the event.

MCCurdy took to Twitter.com later that night to explain to her fans why she decided to miss the show, writing, "A lot of you guys are asking why I didn't attend the Kcas (Kids' Choice Awards). I wish I could explain everything as thoroughly as I would like to, but unfortunately a simpler explanation is all I can write."

She continued, "I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation... and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is Always the most important thing.

"I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, MCCurdians (her fans) and Arianators (Grande's fans) alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first. If you have done that, thank you."

Followers suggested the reason she bailed was because of her racy lingerie photos that surfaced online earlier this month (Mar14), but the 21 year old assured them that was not the case.

She added, "My previous tweet has nothing to do with pics leaked... It has to do with how nickelodeon treated me. That's all. Thanks for the love."

MCCurdy, who has been with Nickelodeon since starring in iCarly in 2007, missed out on the festivities in which Sam & Cat won Favourite TV Show. She was also nominated for Favourite TV Actress, but lost to co-star Grande.
