Jim Carrey could be reprising his lead role in the follow-up to Bruce Almighty, according to a report by Coming Soon. Universal has hired Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel - both of whom worked on Yes Man - to write a sequel to the hit film from 2003. Carrey is being considered once more for the role of Bruce Nolan though it is as yet unclear whether Morgan Freeman will be approached to return to play the role of God.
Steve Carell and Jennifer Aniston also featured in the original film but there is no news as yet on whether they will be cast in those same roles once more. Bruce Almighty confounded negative critical reviews to become a box office hit when it was released in 2003. It also spawned the offshoot, Evan Almighty, starring Steve Carell, which was also a hit, grossing over $31 million in its opening weekend in the Usa.
Carrey is also set to appear in a 2013 release of Burt Wonderstone. The comedy, about a Las Vegas magician, will also feature Carell, Steve Buscemi and James Gandolfini. Carrey has starred in a number of hugely successful comedy films, such as Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar and The Cable Guy.
