Jim Carrey is set to star in a 'Bruce Almighty' sequel.

Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel have been asked by Universal to write a script for the film which would see Jim reprise his role from the 2003 movie where he played Bruce Nolan, a down-on-his-luck TV reporter guy who complains about God too often and is then given powers in order to teach him how difficult it is to run the world.

Jim has previously spoken of his desire to film a sequel to the movie - which was a huge hit in 2003 - saying: "We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about 'Bruce Almighty' and we're talking about maybe another 'Dumb And Dumber'."

It is unclear if Morgan Freeman will reprise his role as God or if Jennifer Aniston, who played Bruce's girlfriend Grace Connelly will return for the new film.

A spin-off featuring Steve Carell's character, reporter Evan Baxter was released in 2007.

Steve and Jim are set to star together next in 'Burt Wonderstone' with Jim playing a street magician who upstages a Las Vegas illusionist (Steve) after he sacks his partner.

'Burt Wonderstone' is set to be directed by Don Scardino, with Tyler Mitchell in line to write the story.
