Fans of ABC's Revenge have been left guessing for months as to who would be picked to play the role of Emily Thorne's mysterious mother. Entertainment Weekly have revealed today that the role will in fact go to the highly acclaimed actress Jennifer Jason Leigh. The 50 year old actress has a respectable CV in the world of both television and Hollywood movies and has recently enjoyed a recurring role in the hugely popular comic drama series Weeds.
When Entertainment Weekly spoke to the show's creator Mike Kelley back in May 2012, he revealed that they had very specific designs for the role. "What we really want to do is find the perfect actor for the role. It would be really great for her to be as formidable as Madeleine Stowe, but it's a completely different part." Stowe also noted "It's got be someone who's got a little bit of a screw loose and can do that well." EW recently ran a poll asking their readers who they reckoned would be a good choice for the role. Hollywood heavyweights Joely Richardson, MARCIA CROSS and Sharon Stone were all on the list. Jennifer wasn't even listed but now they're kicking themselves over the omission.
The next series of Revenge starts on September 21 and although he wasn't giving much away, Kelley did reveal a little about what to expect when Jennifer's character is written into the tale. "What you're going to discover about the woman who was Emily's mother is the circumstances under which they were separated and you're going to find that there's some deep psychological issues with her, which I think is going to be fun for us to explore."
