Jennifer Lopez will receive the 2,500th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The 'On the Floor' hitmaker is set to be celebrated for her contributions to music and film at a ceremony in Los Angeles on June 20, and the occasion will be all the more special as it marks a milestone number for the prestigious monument.

Hollywood trade newspaper Variety confirmed the news on their Twitter account, writing: ''Exclusive: International Superstar Jennifer Lopez to be honoured w/ 2,500th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, on Thursday June 20th! @JLo (sic)''

The 43-year-old star - who first made her name as an actress before turning to pop music - was first confirmed for a star in the Walk of Fame in 2011, however, celebrities are able to choose when to have their ceremony within five years of the confirmation date.

To be considered, stars have to be nominated by a third party, who must donate $30,000 for the creation and maintenance of the plaque. It is thought Jennifer's publicist nominated the singer-and-actress on behalf of her long-time manager, Benny Medina.

Since shooting to stardom in 1990s sitcom 'In Living Color', Jennifer has become a global superstar with starring roles in movies such as 'Maid in Manhattan', a successful run as a judge on hit US TV show 'American Idol', and 75 million record sales.

The entrepreneurial star also has her own production company, clothing line and perfume range.

In 2012, Jennifer was named the highest paid celebrity of the year by Forbes magazine after earning $52 million.
