Jessica Alba has joined forces with New York Congresswoman NITA LOWEY to help the politician push through a new bill to provide education for every child around the world.
Lowey is fighting for U.S. cash as part of the proposed Education For All Act, and now she has the actress supporting her cause in Washington, D.C.
Alba, who joined the Republican in the U.S. capital on Wednesday (21Apr10), said, "This is really a chance for us to make sure that every child gets an education. Seventy-two million children in the world don't have access to an education (and) 60 per cent of them are in Africa and most of them are girls."
President Barack Obama has pledged to donate $2 billion-a-year to help fund a global education initiative - but Congresswoman Lowey insists that's not enough.
She says, "This legislation is a road map... If we could educate young people - those 72 million people... they would be less susceptible to terrorists... We have a responsibility to educate everyone."
Alba admits she's "thrilled" to be part of the initiative - but there won't be any politics in her future: "What I see in my future is being a mom."
