Jessica Biel auditioned for the lead role in The Notebook covered in fake blood in between takes on the set of horror movie remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Rachel MCAdams eventually won the part in the 2004 romantic box office hit, which cemented her and co-star Ryan Gosling as two of Hollywood's hottest young stars.
Biel has revealed she was one of the actresses considered for the role and was forced to perform alongside Gosling for director Nick Cassavetes in extraordinary circumstances.
She tells America's Elle magazine, "That's (The Notebook role) one that I wanted so badly. I was in the middle of shooting Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I auditioned with Ryan Gosling in my trailer - covered in blood. Nick Cassavetes put me through the wringer in an interesting, excitingly creative way. But there's a million that get away. We're gluttons for punishment. It's just rejection."
