Jessica Simpson wants a pet pig.

The singer-and-actress - who was left devastated when her beloved dog Daisy was snatched by a coyote five months ago - is finally ready to have a new animal companion.

She tweeted: "I'm thinking about getting a pet pig. Does this mean I'll have to give up pork?"

Jessica's thoughts have already incurred the wrath of animal rights organisation PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

A spokesperson for the group said: "Pigs, who are smarter than dogs and every bit as sensitive to pain and stress, don't belong in Jessica's stomach or carted around as her latest accessory."

Jessica admitted in October, a month after Daisy's disappearance, that she thought she would get a new pet eventually as the pooch - a gift from ex-husband Nick Lachey - wouldn't want her to be alone.

She said: "I haven't really thought about another dog yet, but maybe sometime. Daisy would want that...Daisy meant the world to me."
