Dolphins Line Up Stations Throughout Florida
Although some major-market sports teams are either planning or actively engaged in presenting their games on their own branded cable-TV networks, the Miami Dolphins have announced that they're sticking with broadcast TV -- although they're signing up stations throughout Florida to carry them. More than a dozen stations will comprise the Dolphins Television Network, the team said, including stations in Miami, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers, Naples, Orlando, Daytona, and Melbourne. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the team did disclose that the Florida stations have agreed to carry "a multitude of team programming," including an NFL draft special, pre- and post-season specials, and The Miami Dolphins Cheerleader Special. Meanwhile, ESPN's Monday Night Football returns tonight with a preseason New York-New York matchup of the Giants and Jets that could trounce the broadcast competition.
