There's a certain aptness that in the same week as Jim Carrey celebrated his landmark 50th birthday, his daughter Jane Carrey should also appear in the spotlight - and that's exactly what's happened as the 24 year-old daughter of the famous funny man and actor popped up as a surprise contestant on the 11th season of 'American Idol.' Even better for the Carrey family, she went through the first round of auditions!
With such a famous surname, it's understandable that all the pressure would've been on Carrey from the off as she entered the auditions - indeed judge Jennifer Lopez recognised her as a child on the set of 'In Living Color' which she'd worked on with her dad - but the mother of one insisted to the cameras "I'm here to make my place in the world." She did reason however "The last name definitely helps and hurts. There's this pressure to be better because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying 'you only got there because of [your name.]'"
However US Weekly reports that any fears of that though weren't evident as she impressed the judges with a version of Bonnie Raitt's 'Something To Talk About,' unanimously being voted through to the Hollywood round of the competition. And who was on the end of the phone line after to congratulate her? Why her dad Jim of course! "She's so wonderful and amazing to me," Jim, 49, told Ryan Seacrest over the line, "I can't wait for the world to understand what she has inside of her. This is going to be a fantastic year."
