A survey of adults and children to find their favourite moment in family film has seen Jk Rowling's boy wizard creation Harry Potter win big yet again, as the moment Harry and his friends discover platform nine and three-quarters came in at number one.

The poll of 2,000 adults and children, which was carried out by Oreo cookies, put Dick Van Dyke's dancing on the roof tops in Disney classic Mary Poppins at number two, while E.T.'s "phone home" moment came in a number three.

The survey also revealed the all-time favourite family film was Shrek, followed by any of the Harry Potter franchise and Home Alone the third. Families thought going to the cinema was one of the best ways for them to bond, as well as being the best value for money activity.

The top ten of favourite moments featured the 1971 version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at number four for the moment Oompa Loompas sing to child visitors to the factory, while watching cowboy Woody come to life in Toy Story was voted number eight.

Scenes from the Lion King, Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Finding Nemo also made it into the final ten.

The top three films that brought grandparents and children together were said to be Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Broadcaster and Oreo family movies spokesman Paul Ross said: "Going to the cinema together as a family is one of the few rare occasions that parents and children can relax together away from the stresses of everyday life - a trip to the cinema is always a favourite in my household."
