Jk Rowling is set to take the plunge, much like the actors who played her beloved Harry Potter characters in the film adaptations, by moving on to her first high profile project since the eventual close of the franchise after the last of the eight films was released in 2011. Rowling has now turned her attention to writing adult literature and has revealed that her first novel will be called 'The Casual Vacancy,' according to Bbc News.
"The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me," Rowling said of her new venture. Describing the book as "blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising," Rowling's publishers Little, Brown & Co. added "Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war."
To say that Rowling has a tall order ahead of her is some understatement. Potter books have sold some 450 million copies worldwide since the first, 'Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone, came out at the end of the 90s. It was a success that only snowballed too, with the first Potter film coming out in 2001 and, together with the ensuing seven other films, going on to clear over $7.7 billion at the Box Office worldwide.
