Joan Jett has been named the 2013 honouree at the annual Sunset Strip Music Festival in West Hollywood.

The rocker will get her own official 'day' to launch the event on 1 August (13), and she will be celebrated at an exclusive Vip event that evening at the House of Blues, where she will be presented with the Elmer Valentine Award for services to the Sunset Strip.

Jett says, "I actually lived on the Strip, right across the street from the Whisky (A Go Go). The Sunset Strip is a piece of rock 'n roll history. I never thought all of those insane times would turn into an award, but I'm very honoured, and inspired to keep making music."

Past recipients of the Valentine Award include Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Motley Crue and The Doors, who were honoured last year (12).

The sixth annual three-day music festival will be headlined by rockers Linkin Park.
