Singer/songwriter John Grant has opened up about his Hiv diagnosis, confessing the news left him fearing for his future.

The former The Czars frontman revealed his health battle to fans during a concert in London last summer (12) but is determined to live a full life with the help of medication.

He has now told how he was given the devastating diagnosis during a break from a recording session in Sweden in 2011 and was completely blindsided by his doctor's announcement.

Grant tells Mojo magazine, "I didn't know what I was going to do after that. I never even recorded any vocals."

In 2011, Grant revealed he had slept with an Aids sufferer during the height of his drug addiction but believed he had not caught the disease.

He said at the time, "As soon as I had cocaine I wanted to have nasty, unprotected sex with a weirdo in an alley while smoking crack. Cocaine made me want to do anything and everything - go as far down as possible and never come back... I slept with someone on occasion who had full-blown Aids and lied to me about it. And I just didn't get it... Russian roulette."
