John Legend visited a Texas prison yesterday (16.04.15) to promote his FREE AMERICA campaign.

The 'All of Me' star performed a few songs at the Travis County Correctional Complex following a press conference at the Senate chamber, The Statesmen newspaper reports.

During the conference, the 36-year-old star urged the state's government to consider revamping their current correction system.

He said: ''Every Texan deserves a better justice systems. They say everything is bigger in Texas. Yes unfortunately, that extends to the state's corrections system as well.

''Texas puts too many people behind bars, and that means taxpayers, families and communities are paying a heavy price for those policies.''

And John - who is married to model Chrissy Teigen - hopes bringing an end to mass incarceration will help solve some of the country's other big issues too.

He added previously: ''We have a serious problem with incarceration in this country. It's destroying families, it's destroying communities and we're the most incarcerated country in the world, and when you look deeper and look at the reasons we got to this place.

''We as a society made some choices politically and legislatively, culturally to deal with poverty, deal with mental illness in a certain way and that way usually involves using incarceration.''
