John Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman is preparing to discuss the rock legend's death on TV for the first time, as part of an upcoming British documentary.

CHANNEL 4 bosses have requested a meeting with Chapman in New York's Attica Prison for a film to mark the 25th anniversary of the IMAGINE icon's tragic demise.

The one-off special, I KILLED JOHN LENNON, will also feature audio footage of an interview Chapman, now 50, gave journalist JACK JONES.

A Channel 4 spokesperson says, "This would be the first TV interview he has done. It will be a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a killer."

Chapman shot Lennon dead outside the Dakota building in Manhattan - where the former beatle lived with his wife YOKO ONO - in December, 1980.
