The late John Lennon's plans for a reclusive life on a small island in Ireland were ruined when fans of the legendary beatle discovered its location. The NORWEGIAN WOOD hitmaker snapped up the hideaway on the Dorinish island in Clew Bay, County Mayo in 1968 for GBP1,550 ($2,800) after becoming disillusioned with fame. But Lennon's dreams of a quiet life ended when his gypsy caravan, painted in psychedelic colours, alerted his legion of fans. MICHAEL BROWNE, whose father made the deal with Lennon, says, "John Lennon wanted to put a gypsy caravan on the island painted in psychedelic colours like the SGT PEPPER LP cover. "When the caravan arrived the story came out and everyone wanted to know who owned it."
