John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono is thrilled with new musical Lennon because she is convinced it would be exactly the tribute he wanted - especially as it contains none of his fellow BEATLE Sir Paul McCartney's solo songs.

The Lennon/McCartney rivalry is legendary and Ono remembers the IMAGINE singer was constantly needled that acts didn't clamour to re-record his tunes in the same way they did with McCartney tracks.

She tells the New York Daily News, "John would love that people sing these songs. He was always saying, 'People cover Paul songs. Why don't they cover more of me?'"

The show sees Lennon's life story through nine different actors and is interspersed with video clips and Lennon's own words and songs.

And Ono insists the complicated structure is necessary. She says, "I was always seeing new sides of him. He was very complex. Obviously he had a lot of anger, because in many ways he led a very dark life. But at the end he found peace."
