BEE GEE BARRY GIBB has spent $2.5 million (GBP1.5 million) on late country star Johnny Cash's former home in Tennessee.

The Man In Black lived at the rural retreat in Henderson near Nashville for 35 years, until his death in 2003, aged 71.

Gibb and his wife LINDA intend to preserve the house in Cash's honour.

The singer says "(The house will) always be the spiritual home for the Cashes.

"My wife Linda and I are determined to preserve it, to honour their memory. We fell in love with it. It's an incredible honour for us.

"We plan to use the home to write songs because of the musical inspiration."
