LATEST: Country legend Johnny Cash's 1986 GRAMMY AWARD has sold at auction in New York for over $150,000 (GBP83,300) more than it's estimate.

The Best Spoken Word honour for Cash's work on CLASS OF '55; MEMPHIS ROCK + ROLL HOMECOMING was expected to fetch $6,000 (GBP3,300) when it went under the hammer at a Cash family auction in New York yesterday (15SEP04).

The Grammy is one of 750 items from the estate of Cash and his wife JUNE Carter Cash, which are being sold off during the three day SOTHEBY'S auction.

Most items are selling for well above their expected prices, but one initial highlight, the late country star's 1987 Rolls Royce Silver Spur sedan, failed to make its $50,000 (GBP27,800) estimate. It sold for $47,000 (GBP26,000) yesterday.

The auction continues today and has already raised almost $2 million (GBP1.1 million).
