Johnny Depp made new gangster movie PUBLIC ENEMIES as a tribute to his grandad, who was a prohibition-era racketeer.
The actor plays notorious 1920s criminal John Dillinger in the film and he insists he jumped at the chance to take on the role, having grown up on tales of his own family's shady past.
Depp tells America's Star magazine, "This movie was a salute to my grandfather. He bootlegged moonshine during the Depression, so because of him the character of Dillinger was pretty easy for me to connect to."
