Johnny Depp will be honoured for his hair and make-up at an awards ceremony in Hollywood.

The 'Pirates of The Caribbean' actor has been given a nod for The Distinguished Artisan Award at the 2014 Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards next month, in praise of his outstanding collaboration to cosmetics in his film roles.

Guild president Susan Cabral-Ebert told Styleite: ''Make-up and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first distinguished Artisan Award.

''He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters. Depp has constantly been an outstanding supporter of our crafts, ultimately respectful and appreciative of our members' abilities and generous with his creative collaboration.''

The new category not only honours make-up artists and hair stylists for achievements in film, television and live theatre, but acknowledges the way a person wears make-up.

Johnny regularly embraces the opportunity to dress up and famously persuaded director Tim Burton he needed a prosthetic nose to play Willy Wonka and most recently sported full tribal make-up in his role as Native American character Tonto in 'The Lone Ranger'.
