Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the Irish actor best known for his starring role in 'The Tudors' has been hospitalized after taking a number of pills in an alleged suicide attempt, according to the UK's Daily Mail. Meyers was discovered by paramedics slumped at his Maida Vale home in Central London on Tuesday (28th June 2011).
The troubled actor, who has reportedly been battling a long-standing drinking problem, initially refused the help of medical staff, however, paramedics were forced to call the police for his own safety. The Irish star was then taken to hospital but discharged in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A female neighbour of the young star said, "I saw the ambulance arriving and was worried to death. Jonathan is a lovely guy. You see him all the time in the street. He says hello and is very pleasant. I hope he is fine". The actor, who also owns homes in Los Angeles, Monaco and Dublin, checked into a five-star rehabilitation centre in South Africa last month. He has been dating the heiress Reena Hammer for seven years, however recent speculation has suggested their relationship has ended.
Considered to be one of the finest young acting talents, Jonathan Rhys Meyers earned a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the biographical miniseries 'Elvis'.
