British singer Joss Stone has thanked her fans and assured them she is "absolutely fine" after cops launched a probe into an alleged plot to murder the star.
Two suspects, aged 30 and 33, were taken in by police on Tuesday (14Jun11) after a car was reportedly seen circling Stone's home in Devon, south-west England. A search of the vehicle later allegedly uncovered a cache of swords, rope and a body bag.
The unnamed men were initially held for possessing an offensive weapon and being equipped for burglary and theft in a conspiracy to cause the soul singer "really serious harm", but officers have now upgraded the inquiry to include a robbery and murder plot following further investigation.
A police statement reads, "As a result of enquiries, the two men are now being detained for the further offences of conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to murder. Major crime detectives are continuing to investigate."
Stone has now spoken out following the revelations, saying, "I'd like to thank everyone for their concern but I'm absolutely fine and getting on with life as normal while the police continue with their enquiries."
Detective Inspector Steve Parker says, "The two men in custody had in their possession information relating to an individual in the Cullompton area and items which lead us to suspect that they may have intended to commit a criminal offence.
"Police enquiries (sic) continue and the men remain in custody. We're unable to say any more at this time but I would like to thank the local residents for reporting the suspicious car."
