An ailing Justin Bieber fan had the night of his life on Wednesday (10Oct12) when he was invited backstage to meet his idol at a show in Vancouver, Canada.
Derek Russell, who has Down syndrome, is preparing for a fourth heart surgery in the coming weeks - but that didn't keep him from heading out to watch the pop star perform live at Vancouver's Rogers Arena.
And Bieber made sure the 14 year old's evening was extra special by arranging a meeting with the teen, who may not survive his next procedure, in order to take Russell's mind off his scary health crisis.
The boy's mother, Allison Metzner, tells CBC News she's grateful for Bieber's music, stating, "I think it just kind of takes him (Russell) away... He gets in the groove and he forgets about what is going on in his life."
This isn't the first time the Baby hitmaker has taken time out of his busy schedule to cheer up a young fan with medical problems - he took cancer-stricken Avalanna Routh out on a date in New York City earlier this year (12) and staged a fake wedding. The six year old died last month (Sep12).
