Justin Bieber 's 'Boyfriend' has been released today (March 26, 2012), sending Twitter and iTunes into meltdown as fans clamour to hear the first of the 18 year-old's apparent grown-up looking direction. Last week the pop star posted a short 10 second preview clip onto YouTube that even in its brief showing suggested a more adult-orientated Bieber. Most notably was the lyric written down on a piece of paper that read "If I was your boyfriend, never let you go, put you onto s**t that I bet you didn't know."
Now the track's gone on sale with Bieber noting the issues iTunes was having with the demand by writing on his Twitter "Yo itunesmusic im trying to romance 19 million ladies with my music. you are kinda screwing this up for me. Leggo! BoyfrienDonItunes." The tweet of course meant that the hashtag "BoyfrienDonItunes" began trending worldwide, with Bieber's nearly 19 million followers dutifully Tweeting their support.
Later, the star went on to add "Seeing all the comments on BoyfrienD is amazing. Muchlove. now let's get it to 1!!! Bieberblast!! thanks." You sense that, in the States at least, he won't have too much problem achieving that, though of course the true measure of success will be how fans react to the song after hearing it and whether they can stomach his new direction.
