Bosses at sportswear giant Nike have moved on from losing Kanye West as a celebrity collaborator by signing up his rap rival Drake to oversee a line of sneakers.

The Canadian hip-hop star will partner with the company's Air Jordan brand, created by and named after basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Announcing the deal at a gig in Portland, Oregon - the home of Nike's headquarters - on Tuesday (03Dec13), Drake said, "Growing up I'm sure we all idolised this guy. He goes by the name of Michael Jordan. So today I came to Portland, and I officially became inducted into the Team Jordan family."

He has also uploaded an image of his footwear collection on his Instagram.com page. The basketball sneakers feature the letters 'Ovo' in honour of his October's Very Own record label.

Drake's announcement comes after West cut ties with Nike to sign with their rival Adidas. He was the brand's first non-athlete collaboration and released two collections of Air Yeezys.
