Karl Lagerfeld's cat earned over £2 million last year.

According to the 81-year-old fashion designer - who is the creative director of Chanel - his Siamese kitty named Choupette raked in a staggering three million euros, which is approximately £2.1 million, after teaming up with make up brand Shu Uemura and posing for a Vauxhall Corsa car calendar.

Karl said: ''She did two jobs and made 3 million euros last year. One was for cars in Germany and the other was for a Japanese beauty product. I don't allow her to do foodstuffs and things like this. She's too sophisticated for that. She had something unique.''

Choupette has two maids and her own Instagram account and was paid just a fraction less than supermodel Cara Delevingne, who is thought to have earned around £2.4 million in 2014.

Karl added his pet's personal maids are always on hand to give her beauty treatments.

The fashion icon said: ''She stays always with me and she has two personal maids. They play with her, they have to take care of her beautiful white hair, the beauty treatments for her eyes, and they entertain her.''

Karl also reflected on how Choupette came into his life.

He explained to The Cut: ''It's a miracle in the story. Choupette belonged to a friend of mine who asked if my maid could take care of her for two weeks when he was away. When he came back, he was told that Choupette would not return to him. He got another cat who became fat, and Choupette became the most famous cat in the world, and the richest.''
