Kasabian rocker Serge Pizzorno irritates his wife by writing new songs as they trudge around supermarket aisles on their weekly grocery shop.

The British star struggles to 'write to order' and has to wait for inspiration to strike before he can begin working on new tracks.

The guitarist admits a tune often pops into his head when he is out shopping with his wife, and she is left holding the bags while he calls his own cell phone and sings the melody into his voicemail recorder.

Pizzorno tells Q magazine he now has approximately 3,000 answer machine messages he has left for himself, adding, "It's like what Keith Richards says, he has an antenna and waits for the transmissions. I'll be walking around the supermarket and suddenly it comes and I'm la-la-ing into me (my) phone. Drives the missus (wife) crazy."
