Kate Hudson is reportedly set to sign a staggering $85 million (GBP44.7 million) deal to play the lead role in the movie adaptation of I DREAM OF JEANNIE.

The blockbuster's director Gurinder Chadha refuses to confirm whether the coveted role has gone to Goldie Hawn's daughter, but she insists the leading lady must be able to turn the sixties TV comedy into a feminist film.

Chadha explains, "It's a big summer blockbuster that normally boys get to be in, and boys get to make. But this time it's a girl in the lead and I get to make it. It's Girl Power.

"My heroine is a mysterious genie and I want to show a bit of background, which I'll set in ancient Persia, but the bulk of it I'll film in California."
