Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins is immersing herself in the teachings of Judaism to understand her new fiance's religious background.

The soprano became engaged to American arts professor Andrew Levitas in April (14) after six months of dating and now the singer, who was brought up as a Christian, has taken it upon herself to read all about Judaism ahead of their wedding.

She says, "I've spent my life up until 18 attending church regularly and that will always be my background and I will always really appreciate that in my life going forward as well. But I think it is very interesting to learn about another faith and to respect that, and to understand it. It's a learning thing.

"When you do religious studies at school you learn about other people. I really enjoy learning about all the different kinds of religion and what the main parts of each are. This is a side of my partner, so of course I'm going to learn about that."
