Actress Kathy Bates was terrified when she nearly landed a role on THREE'S COMPANY - because she hated the show. The MISERY star was living in New York when she received an offer from US TV network ABC to work in Los Angeles. She explains, "I did a play called VANITIES in New York that was my first kind of big break, and from that I got a contract to ABC. "It was all very exciting, I came out to LA and I spent a whole day auditioning for Joyce DeWitt's part on Three's Company. "I spent eight hours making sandwiches and looking through this blonde's legs as she was bent over with her rear end towards me and I thought, 'I just don't know if I want to spend my time doing this.' "You had to sign the contracts for seven years in advance. "I remember going back to my sister's house and we were sitting there having dinner and praying, praying that I didn't get this job. "The phone rang and they said, 'No, we've gone back with Joyce and I thought, 'God, thank you!'"
