Katie Price gave birth to her son via emergency Caesarean section after her unborn baby's heart rate dropped to a dangerous level.

The former glamour model welcomed Jett Riviera - who weighed five pounds and two ounces - into the world last week and was rushed into surgery for her fourth child, her first with husband Kieran Hayler.

The star's family holiday in Europe had already become a nightmare after bloody tests showed she had an infection which ran the risk of harming the baby in her womb,

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday newspaper, she said: ''The baby's heart rate was also really low.

''The next thing I know, a nurse is in my own saying, 'Get ready now. You have five minuets to shower. You are having C-section soon'.

''I started panicking. I have a terrible fear of needles and I was dreading the epidural.

''I got in the shower in shock. I kept thinking, 'This will be my last shower before I have my fourth child'. The next thing I knew I was being wheeled into the theatre.''

Her fears were made worse when Kieran was told he couldn't follow her into surgery, leaving Katie ''hysterical''.

She added: ''They wouldn't allow him in. We pleaded but everything was happening so fast and before I knew it I was forced to say goodbye.

''I was sobbing, 'I love you, I love you' as the doors swung shut behind me. It was like a scene from a dramatic film.

''I carried on pleading but no one could speak English well. I was hysterical.''
