Katy Perry has shown off her generous side by asking fans to donate to an animal charity instead of sending gifts to mark her birthday this week (begs24Oct11).
The I Kissed a Girl hitmaker turned 27 on Tuesday (25Oct11) and she reached out to her online followers with a special message on her big day.
She urged them to support her favourite charity, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Aspca), in honour of her milestone.
In a post on her Twitter.com page, Perry writes, "Thanks for the sweet B-day messages! For my b-day I have set up a donation page aspca.org/katyperry The voice for Animals! Give if u can! Ooo... it's trending. i feel shpeshul (special)."
The fundraising page features a picture of the pop star with a kitten on her shoulder, alongside the message, "Thank you for helping me celebrate my birthday by making a donation to the Aspca. Please know that your donation is not only special to me, but to the countless animals you will help save."
