Katy Perry indulged in a British banquet when she arrived in the UK on Wednesday (12.10.11).

The 'Firework' hitmaker dined on meat pies and Yorkshire puddings after arriving in Sheffield, North England, where she begins the latest leg of her tour.

As well as being keen to try the local cuisine the singer - who is married to British comic star Russell Brand - was also keen to learn about the city's local history.

Justin Rowntree, owner of Silversmiths restaurant where Katy dined, told local newspaper The Star: "I got a call from the Leopold Hotel where Katy and her people were staying to say she was on her way.

"When she got here Katy was very interested in how we got our name Silversmith's and was intrigued to hear about Sheffield's history of silver manufacture. Then she tucked into a meal. We first introduced her to Yorkshire pudding. She thought it was funny that we ate puddings as starters but once she got her head around it Katy loved it.

"Then she had a Whirlow Hall Farm meat pie and Henderson's Relish gravy which she devoured. Every plate on the table was completely empty when the party left."

Katy later took to her twitter page to enthuse about the food she had enjoyed in her "beloved" England.

She wrote: "FINALLY! Beloved ENGLAND! 1st thing I did was stuff me gob w/some yorkshire puddings & meat pies from Silversmiths in Sheffield. Ah bless. (sic)"

She later enjoyed another tasty treat.

She wrote: "yes, proper beans on toast ... I've missed you."
