Zooey Deschanel has decided to make her split from rocker husband Ben Gibbard official and file for divorce. The New Girl actress filed papers on December 27, 2011, just days before Russell Brand took a similar step to end his marriage from superstar singer Katy Perry.
Obtained by Tmz.com, the court documents reveal the figures involved in the divorce - and it's certainly a hefty sum. Zooey has $1.5 million in the bank and an additional $1.6 million stashed away in stocks and bonds. The documents also reveal the 31-year-old's various expenses, which include $22,5000 a month on clothes, her mortgage, health care, holidays and numerous necessities. She claims to earn around $95,000 a month, of which she gives $1,500 to charity. Dechanel and Gibbard, the singer with indie-rockers Death Cab For Cutie, split two months ago but have only just made it official. They tied the knot near Seattle, Washington in September of 2009 and there had been no signs of unrest in the marriage before they announced the split. Speaking recently to the New York Magazine about his soon-to-be ex-wife, Gibbard gushed, "'I'd seen her in movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful". The pair were introduced by their mutual music manager, with the rocker saying, "I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me".
There appears to be no third-party involvement in the split and Deschanel's publicist has described the parting of ways as completely amicable. Despite her personal issues, the actress appears to be approaching a glittering period in her career - she has been nominated for a Golden Globe for 'New Girl'.
