BILL & TED 3, the highly anticipated third instalment in the 'Bill & Ted' comedy franchise, will be "pretty great", according to the movie's star Alex Winter, who played 'Bill' in the original films. The actor's co-star Keanu Reeves recently confirmed that the new script is now just "weeks away" and it is likely that production will begin later this year.
During an interview with MTV News in 2010, Winter spoke enthusiastically about BILL & TED 3, saying, "We kicked around the idea over the years and had always thought if we could make something that was as kind of genuine in spirit as the originals and without falling prey to kind of retro cynicism or something that was unnecessary, it would be worth doing", adding, "Now the cat's out of the bag, and the truth is that, yeah, we have finally hit upon an idea that we think is pretty great". Reeves has hinted that the movie will follow 'Bill and Ted' in the mid-forties but refused to reveal any further plot details during his announcement earlier this week. Winter, whose appearances in the original films still represent his biggest ever roles, emphasized that the third instalment "won't be cynical", adding, "What's the funniest and most surprising take on where Bill and Ted would be right now if we stopped back in on them? That's what we're doing".
The script for BILL & TED 3 is being penned by the original screenwriters Chris Matheson and ED SOLOMON.
