GORE VERBINSKI will not be directing the fourth instalment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, it has been revealed.

The man responsible for all of the first three Pirates movies has stepped aside in order to concentrate on helming the forthcoming BIOSHOCK film.

An adaption of the computer game of the same name, the picture will be set in an alternative 1960s during which a character know only as Jack finds himself stranded in a mysterious underwater city called Rapture.

As well as the computer game adaptation, Verbinski is also working on animated film Rango, which will see him reunited with Pirates star Johnny Depp in a film version of the Cluedo board game.

Verbinski is not alone in failing to return for the fourth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, with Keira Knightley revealing she will not be reprising her role as Elizabeth Swann.

However, it looks as though Depp is on board as Captain Jack Sparrow.
