Gospel singer Kelly Price opened a Whitney Houston tribute concert on Wednesday (04Feb15) by asking the crowd to pray for the late singer's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown as she "fights for her life" in hospital.

Brown, 21, remains in a critical condition at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia after she was found unresponsive in a bath tub on 31 January (15).

Price, who performed with Houston at a pre-Grammy Awards party just days before her death in 2012, hosted a tribute concert in honour of the singer on Wednesday, and she kicked off the event by urging the audience to pray for Brown.

She told the crowd, "Bobbi Kristina is in the hospital and her condition is very serious... Please continue to pray for her as she fights for her life. She is a young woman who deserves a chance to live and to thrive and experience the greatness that is inside of her and come into her own... I will ask you all to say a prayer. If prayer is not your thing, send love. Send your love and well wishes to the entire family."

During the concert, Price and Faith Evans performed their single Heartbreak Hotel, which they originally sang with Houston.

Ahead of the bash, Price told Usmagazine.com, "Bobbi Kris is fighting for her life. I dare not say much more than that but I do ask for people to pray, to respect their privacy and to remember that this is a young woman who lost her mother at 18 years old and was never given the opportunity to properly mourn her because there was always a camera in her face."

Houston died on 11 February, 2012, aged 48.
