Country star Kenny Chesney 'drunk-dialled' Lionel Richie at four in the morning, begging to be a part of his duets album Tuskegee.
The soul man collaborated with some of the biggest country stars on the project and when Chesney first heard about it, he urged Richie to consider him as a studio partner.
The Hello hitmaker says, "He calls me at four o'clock in the morning... and I was asleep and he left this voicemail: 'Lionel, I love My Love. I want My Love. I love you, Lionel, I love you, I love you so much... My Love is my favourite song. I wanna sing My Love with you.'
"He calls me later and goes, 'I'm sorry Lionel, I drunk-dialled you.'"
But the early morning call worked as Chesney got his wish - and joined Richie in the studio. And he brought a very special guest.
The soul man recalls, "He comes in the door... and he's like, 'Something amazing happened; my mother has never been to a recording session in my life, but my momma wanted to come down to see you."
Richie spent time with the Chesneys and insists they're "the lovingest (sic) family I've ever met in my entire life".
