Singer/songwriter Lionel Richie completed Lady, the hit ballad he wrote for Kenny Rogers, in a studio restroom.
The Three Times a Lady hitmaker pitched a snippet of the song to the country legend and told him he'd finish the track and the lyrics if he liked what he heard in time for a planned studio session.
Rogers fell in love with the tune and signed on to record it, but busy Richie still hadn't finished it by the time they met in the studio.
The soul man recalls, "I only wrote the first verse, so I'm thinking, 'OK, we'll fudge around for a minute and maybe he won't get it right and then I'll go home (and finish it).'
"Well, he kills the first verse and he said, 'Alright Lionel, where's the second verse?' and I said, 'I'll be right back,' and I went down to the bathroom and I wrote the second verse... I wrote one of my greatest love songs in a toilet."
Richie and Rogers, who are now great friends, teamed up to re-record Lady for the Hello singer's new country duets album Tuskegee.
